Day 23

23 May 2023

Villaviciosa to Gijon

Stage: 19

Walked: 31,66 km

Planned: 31,2 km

Steps: 41,722

We headed for Gijon at 6:15. The ascent to the Alto de La Cruz was as demanding as rewarding. The top was covered in fog, quiet as the quietest place on earth and the descent was a cool, slippery, magic. We had great fun - and we even danced. We tried to get breakfast at Peon with no luck. However, the restaurant had a vending machine with everything from cappuccino to latte. We continued walking to Deva and from there to Gijon. Lunch was very pleasant at a place called La Huerta, with a very fresh salad. Encarnita was leaving El Camino until next year. We left our bags at my hotel, went to get Ice Cream at Regma and I finally walked Encarnita to the train station. I then got a beer and dinner - salad and gnocchis which I had been craving for a while.

The company of Encarna made me think of the angels we all find along our ways, and also the power of protection of the people who love us, regardless of the distance or whether they are in the earth or left already. My word for today was GRATITUDE.
