Day 26

26 May 2023

Aviles to Soto de Luiña

Stage: 21

Walked: 41,1 km

Planned: 36 km

Steps: 49,220

We left the Albergue with Vicente around 6:45 and walked around 7-8 km for a tasty breakfast. We carried on to Muros de Nalon. The journey had lots of ups and downs. Total, we climbed more than 1,000 m. The landscapes were beyond stunning. In Muros, a beautiful town in the mountains, I had a beer and a bite to eat and left Vicente in a homy albergue.  I continued my journey to Soto and found a beach (la concha) where I rested my tired feet. The climb back from the beach was challenging and I had run out of water 10km back. Out of the blue, a vending machine appeared after me were I had water, Aquarius and a coke. It is true what they say “El Camino always provides”.  I finally reached the donativo albergue La Reguera, from Jacin and Elena, a lovely couple from Madrid whom left it all behind to start this project. I got food for the Camino next day, had snacks and then we all had dinner -all peregrinos and hosts. Food, chat, laughs and wine. Not a single person in the Albergue was from the same country. It was a lovely night.

Fun fact: a lady that stormed into the Aviles albergue while we were being checked-in to use the toilet (without greeting nor asking for permission), ended up that night next to me in the table, making jokes about Colombians and cocaine. El camino, just as life, has it all!
