Day 35

4 Jun 2023

Vilalba to Miraz

Stage: 29

Walked: 37,18 km

Planned: 35,8 km

Steps: 45,264

The journey started very early with no coffee in the albergue. I headed out at 6:30 and 7km later I found a coffee/sandwich vending machine and I had my first snack. The walk was again, very rural and on a quiet Sunday on top of everything. Very, very quiet walk in which I only found (real) food 20 km after my departure. I had a croissant with hot Colacao which will always remind me of our breakfast in Ocaña when I was a kid. After this snack, I hit the road again and I quickly found myself in Km #33, with the sun hitting heavily and a menace of storm. I had a lovely Sunday lunch there and walked the remaining 2 km to the albergue. The Miraz albergue is run by the St James fraternity out of England. The hospitaleros, a couple from the US were beyond friendly since my arrival (Richard and Caylene). I checked in and proceeded with my daily ritual since my first day in this camino:

  • Place the shoes in the shoe rack
  • Place the trekking poles in the basket
  • Spray deodorant inside the shoes
  • Make the bed
  • Unpack and organize
  • Refill the water bottle
  • Shower
  • Do the daily laundry
  • Stretch
  • Relax (with mint tea and corn cake - mint I myself took from their garden)
  • Find food and liquids

  • I had fortunately eaten before arriving. Most of the other 14 pilgrims didn’t have a chance because of the storm. Rich and his wife pulled all the food they could find (their own and leftovers from other pilgrims) and prepared a feast out of nowhere - lots of wine, soup, rice, cake. We had such a lovely time. We then washed the dishes and listened to great music. I had the opportunity to chat with Noel from Uruguay and was a lovely, open talk. Then we all went to bed. Another beautiful night in El Camino.
