Day 39

8 Jun 2023

Ou Pedrouzo to Santiago de Compostela

Stage: 32B

Walked: 28,99 km

Planned: 18 km

Steps: 36,960

The final stage was very special.  However, while laying in bed ready to sleep for my last push, the very last stride, I had a cathartic moment that I couldn’t help but collect in a few words, in spanish naturally, to share with the people that I kept in my thoughts during the entire journey. The words are here because I don’t want to forget them or that night.

I started walking at 05:00 in the middle of the worst storm yet in my Camino.  The walk was challenging and nostalgic.  The journey would came to an end - and not really.  The day went quick, quicker than I expected.  I tried to squeeze every bit of it but it came to an end, regardless. I couldn´t hold it in my hands. I tried and I failed.  That’s life, I guess.

El Camino De Santiago is there and it is not going anywhere.  As of today I am not sick but I also know, for certain, that our days in this planet are numbered. As long as my health is decent and my heart strong, I will always plan to come back.  It is my promise. I shook hands with the birds, the wind, the trees, the Cantabrian sea,  the mountains of Galicia, el Pais Vasco, Cantabria and Asturias.  They know.  Until then, I will continue walking - golpe a golpe y verso a verso.

See you soon Spain!
